Diversity - Fighting to Make a Difference
McDonald Law Group has an “unbreakable” commitment to diversity and is fighting to make a difference for women and minorities in the firm and the community. Although McDonald Law Group is a relatively small firm, it has a full-time Director of Recruitment and Diversity, who devotes her entire time and attention to developing and implementing the firm’s diversity programs. MLG is proud of the Equality Scholarship Fund, a five year scholarship established with Rutgers Law School-Newark. This scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and financial need. A pipeline program in Washington, D.C. is being established through the firm's ambassador at American University. MLG is sponsoring a program entitled Facilitating Leadership In Youth (FLY) which encourages elementary through high school students by paring them with individual volunteer tutors and mentors. An LSAT Equality Scholarship is in the process of being established with Yemaya at New Jersey City University to cover the cost of LSAT preparation. The firm supports Yemaya in its respect for, celebration of, and promotion of women of African descent. As a consequence of the recent decrease in the number of minority applications to law school, McDonald Law Group is in the process of supporting the New Jersey Law and Education Empowerment Project which empowers urban youth in grades 8 to 12 from underserved neighborhoods in northern New Jersey including Newark, Irvington, East Orange and Jersey City.
Unlike traditional law firms, MLG is readily accessible to those in need. MLG has a stable client base and steady stream of high quality work, which allows the firm to continue to handle legal matters for women and minorities on a pro-bono basis. Every lawyer in the firm is encouraged to devote time during the work day to handle such matters. The supportive and caring environment in the firm stems from its partners and their personal commitment to community activism and to making a difference for those in need. McDonald Law Group continues to aggressively advocate and fight for the rights of the disadvantaged, particularly for women and minorities who are “down for the count” and need good lawyers in their corner.
